Mod Suggestion Thread

Making a thread where people can suggest mods to be added to the server possibly... A lot of mods are being released by Giants which are very useful and cool (On-farm gas tanks, 4x4s, sheds with closable doors, etc). If you have a suggestion, please put it here using the following format:

Mod Name (As listed on mod manager):

Mod Category (Mod manager category):

Mod Description (What exactly is it):

 

There is no guarantee any will be added, as it's all up to J Kelly, but this format will assist in adding them if they are going to be added in!

Mod Name: Composite Machine Sheds

Mod Category: Farm Buildings

Mod Description: Adds a number of sheds ranging from 3 to 6 doors (working doors) that can hold vehicles up to 16m long... Working lighting on the inside for nighttime.

I for one would like to suggest not considering any mods from anything other than the in-game modhub. Improvements on security, ease of access, ease of install, etc.

It hasn't been discussed at all yet, but I do know that FS17 had a lot of GREAT mods (must-haves, IMO) that never made it to the ModHub.  There's also a way to download mods (including the entire mod pack) from the hosted server (no need to go to multiple links) and then you just drop them into your mods folder, so it's quite easy.  That said, I've not yet seen any mods I'd consider must-haves, so it hasn't been brought up yet.

With over 2000 hours in farm simulator, I agree with this. Giants tests mods and only those they feel don't break 'realism' and don't have bugs are added by them. Adding mods from outside sources leads down a path of editing/fixing/constant updates/dealing with more glitches than we already do. Similar to SOE, you deal with mods with too high a poly count bringing frame rates down once 3-4 were on the map, broken code that causes other things unrelated to the actual mod to not work correctly, works flawless in single player but utterly broken in multiplayer, etc.

 

I hosted a server for a long time and can say with experience, it works when you have a very active server owner testing, editing mods so they work better than default, and otherwise staying on top of mod updates to fix glitches with previous versions. We won't have that here so using Giant's recommended mods, while not fulfilling all your dreams, is a whole lot less of a headache.
